2 Configuring NDMA

This chapter explains how to set up the SNAP-IX configuration and the host configuration for NDMA. It includes the following sections:

2.1 Configuring SNAP-IX for Use with NDMA

This section provides a summary of the SNAP-IX configuration requirements for NDMA. For more information about SNAP-IX configuration and on the administration commands described in this section, refer to the SNAP-IX Administration Guide.

To run NDMA, you will require:

This information can either be configured using the command-line administration program, or by using the Motif administration program, as described in the sections below.

2.1.1 Configuring SNAP-IX Using the Motif Administration Program

To define the communications link to the host, follow these steps (additional help is available from the Motif administration program online help task sheet, configuring connectivity):

  1. Define a port.

  2. Define an LS associated with that port.

To define the LUA LU, define an LU associated with the LS that is an LUA LU. (Additional help is available on defining LUA LUs from the online help task sheet, configuring LUA.)

2.1.2 Configuring SNAP-IX Using the Command-Line Administration Program

To define the communications link to the host, follow these steps:

  1. Define a DLC using the administration command define_*_dlc where * indicates a DLC type such as SDLC or TR.

  2. Define a port associated with that DLC using the administration command define_*_port where * indicates a DLC type such as SDLC or TR.

  3. Define an LS associated with that port using the administration command define_*_ls where * indicates a DLC type such as SDLC or TR. The definition of the LS to the host must include the name of a local PU to own the LUA LU used for NDMA, and must have solicit_sscp_sessions set.

To define an LUA LU, use the administration command define_lu_0_to_3 . The LU must be owned by the PU whose name was specified in the LS definition.

For information about the commands listed above, and the different parameters that can be specified for each, refer to the SNAP-IX Administration Guide.
