Press Release
Infinera Selects Data Connection IP Routing and MPLS Protocol Stacks for Infinera DTN
London, UK: September 26, 2005. Data Connection Limited (DCL), the world's leading independent provider of
communications protocol software, announced today that Infinera is using Data Connection's integrated control plane technology,
which includes its DC-MPLS and DC-OSPF protocol products, in Infinera's digital optical networking platform, the DTN.
Founded in 1981, Data Connection has developed portable routing and signaling source code covering a wide range of technologies
for over 20 years. The company optionally provides its routing protocols tightly coupled with its packet and/or optical MPLS
software products to give an integrated control plane that significantly reduces development time and costs for OEM system vendors.
Backed by a self-funded, long-standing corporation with world-renowned customer support, all of Data Connection's products are
architected for high availability and seamless portability to numerous hardware and software environments.
Infinera pioneered "Digital Optical Networking", a new approach to optical telecommunications enabled by photonic integration.
Digital Optical Networking combines dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) scalability, digital bandwidth management and protection,
and GMPLS-based networking intelligence. The Infinera DTN optical platform, based on Infinera's own breakthrough photonic integrated
circuits (PICs), is delivering SDH/SONET, Ethernet, and managed wavelength transport services in live long-haul, regional, and metro
core networks around the world.
Data Connection's portable IP routing and MPLS source code provided Infinera with the building blocks to create the sophisticated
routing and bandwidth management features of the Infinera DTN.
"Our customers value the DTN's ability to deliver high-bandwidth optical services very quickly and flexibly. This requires
distributed routing and traffic engineering capabilities that are made possible by the innovative minds at Infinera and the portable IP routing
and MPLS products from Data Connection," said Sudhanshu Verma, VP of Systems Software at Infinera.
"The Digital Optical Network and Photonic Integrated Circuits place Infinera in the forefront of optical networking," said Phil McConnell,
CEO of Data Connection. "And the flexible architecture inherent in all of Data Connection's products has helped exploit the ground-breaking
optical advancements in the Infinera DTN and deliver a highly successful product."
