MPLS Services

The real power of MPLS and GMPLS is the ability to layer any service over any transport, and to combine multiple services over a common transport, while providing appropriate QoS for each service. An MPLS based control plane enables the signaling and routing of MPLS transport and services.

Services that can be carried over MPLS or GMPLS include

• IP, where carrying IP traffic is a particularly simple use of MPLS
• Layer 2 (VPLS, PWE3, Circuit Emulation)
• Carrier Ethernet
• Layer 3 VPNs
